Dr. James Butler, MD, PhD, serves as Chief Medical Officer at University Behavioral Health (UBH) Denton, where he provides clinical leadership and medical oversight for the hospital’s comprehensive behavioral health services. UBH Denton is a full-service behavioral health hospital offering inpatient psychiatric care for men, women, adolescents and geriatric patients, along with continued outpatient services including Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP).
A practicing psychiatrist with more than a decade of experience in psychiatry and medical genetics, Dr. Butler brings a unique, forward-thinking perspective to behavioral health care—particularly in understanding the role genetics can play in the development and treatment of mental health disorders. As Chief Medical Officer, he leads multidisciplinary medical teams, oversees inpatient and outpatient programming and drives quality improvement initiatives to ensure high standards of patient care and outcomes.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Butler held regional medical leadership positions where he provided oversight for patient care teams and advanced clinical quality initiatives across multiple behavioral health settings in Texas. His leadership has been instrumental in strengthening care models, integrating evidence-based and innovative treatment approaches and supporting clinicians in delivering patient-centered care.
Dr. Butler is deeply committed to expanding access to high-quality behavioral health services and believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health treatment. His work focuses on advancing clinical excellence, improving access to care and helping individuals and families navigate complex behavioral health challenges.
Dr. Butler earned doctorate degrees in molecular genetics and medicine from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. He completed research fellowships at Harvard University’s Howard Hughes Medical Institute and UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Erin Dodson is a dedicated psychiatric nurse and healthcare leader with over a decade of experience in behavioral health. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with a minor in Psychology from Grand View University and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on Nursing Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Erin currently serves as the Chief Nursing Officer at University Behavioral Health (UBH), where she leads nursing operations and clinical initiatives to ensure high standards of patient care and staff development. Her leadership is grounded in a strong clinical foundation and a deep commitment to mental health services.
Over the course of her career, Erin has worked with diverse patient populations, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, detox, geriatric and intensive care. She has experience across both inpatient and outpatient settings, allowing her to bring a well-rounded, patient-centered approach to care delivery. Erin also previously served at UBH in 2021 and 2022, bringing valuable continuity and insight to her current executive leadership role. Her passion for psychiatric nursing and her dedication to advancing quality care continue to shape her impact in the field.

With a solid educational foundation and over two decades of experience at University Health Services (UHS), Kristin has demonstrated remarkable expertise in various facets of mental health treatment and management.
Kristin pursued her academic journey with a focus on understanding the complexities of human behavior. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M and the University of North Texas, laying the groundwork for her career in the mental health field. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, she earned a Master’s degree in Counseling from Amber University, equipping herself with advanced skills in therapeutic intervention.
Since September 1997, Kristin has been an integral part of UHS, starting her journey by providing child/adolescent group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy. Her dedication and proficiency led her to work extensively with adults facing mental health challenges and dual diagnoses, where she conducted groups, individual sessions, and family therapy sessions to provide comprehensive care.
Kristin’s career trajectory at UHS reflects her exceptional talents and leadership qualities. She transitioned into the role of Director of Intake, demonstrating a keen understanding of patient needs and clinical processes. During her tenure, Kristin played a pivotal role in expanding the Trauma program census by an impressive 36% at a sister facility, showcasing her strategic acumen and ability to drive positive outcomes.
While Kristin has transitioned away from direct patient care, her impact remains profound. As the Director of Utilization Management, she is a staunch advocate for patients, ensuring that clinical decisions align with the individual’s needs and are supported by robust medical necessity documentation. Her expertise in navigating insurance landscapes and understanding the intensity of services required for optimal care sets her apart as a leader in utilization management.

Anna Karen Arwine graduated from Texas Tech University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and from Texas Wesleyan University in 2015 with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. Since entering the mental health field in 2015, Anna has held a variety of leadership roles in residential, inpatient, PHP/IOP and private practice settings. H
er approach to therapy and leadership is rooted in the belief that everyone is one life event away from seeking care themselves, and she strives to create an environment where the well-being of both clients and staff is prioritized. An introverted foodie, Anna enjoys reading, watching Dateline and sports and spending time with her husband, daughter and three fur babies, Dora, Teddy and Scarlett.
